Transferring a .uk Domain to Us

The transfer process for .uk, .co.uk, .me.uk, and .org.uk domains is different from other types of domains. Instead of starting the transfer at the new registrar, .uk transfers are started at the current registrar.

Transferring a .uk domain does not renew it, so we do not charge for .uk transfers.

To transfer a .uk, .co.uk, .ltd.uk, .me.uk, or .org.uk domain to Pair Domains, ask the current registrar to initiate a transfer request to the Registrar Tag ID: PAIRNETWORKS. Once the request is made, we will contact you via email to claim the transferred domain.

If you are not sure who your current registrar is, you may check in WHOIS.

Before transferring, you must verify that a valid, working email address is stored in the contact information at your current registrar. We will use this address to contact you to complete the transfer.

Transferring Between Accounts

If a domain is already with Pair Domains, you can change the ownership without needing to pay for a transfer. Instead, domain names can be moved between accounts. There is no charge for moving domain names between accounts or for creating new accounts.

To move a domain from one account to another account, you can log into the account that currently manages the domain:

  1. Log into the Domain Name Management System
  2. Select Preferences from the drop-down navigation menu
  3. Select Move Domains to Another Account
  4. If you want to create a new account, click Create a New Account
Alternately, if you want to move to an existing account, skip to
    Step 7
  5. Fill in the Account Contact information for the new account
  6. Choose an account name and password, and click Create
  7. Select the domain(s) to move
  8. Enter the new account name, and click Submit

You will be prompted to enter the password for the current account.

We will send an email to the current Registrant Email asking to confirm the move. After the current Registrant confirms the move, we will send an email to the new Registrant Email asking to confirm the move. The move will not be completed unless both the current Registrant and new Registrant confirm it within three days.

Please Note: Moving a domain name to a different account will  trigger a request to verify contact information on the new account. You can find more information about verifying contact information in our Knowledge Base.

Please Note: Domains with Weebly sites cannot be moved this way. If you have not done much work on the site yet, you can cancel the Weebly site, and then you can move the domain.

If you need to keep the current site, we can move all Weebly sites associated with an account to a separate account that has never used Weebly before. However, we cannot move individual Weebly sites. So if you have multiple Weebly sites on an account, we can move all of them or none of them. If you want to move all of them, you can contact us to move the domains. Unfortunately, it is not possible to move domains to Weebly sites if the destination account has used Weebly before.

Transferring Away

You can move your domain to a new hosting provider without transferring the registration. If you want to move the hosting while keeping the domain with us, your web host can provide name servers to use on your domain. After you have the name servers, you can follow these steps to update them:

  1. Log into the Domain Name Management System
  2. Click the domain to update
  3. Replace the current name servers with the new name server host names, and click Modify

If you want to transfer the registration away from Pair Domains, you will need to start the transfer with your new registrar. Before starting the transfer, please make sure that you have the Transfer Authorization Code and that you stop automatically rejecting outbound transfers:

  1. Log into the Domain Name Management System
  2. Click the domain to update
  3. The Transfer Authorization Code will be displayed at the top of the page. Save the code
  4. Uncheck the box labeled Automatically Reject Outbound Transfers, and click Modify

Please Note: If a domain currently uses DNSSEC on our name servers, DNSSEC should be disabled before transferring.

.UK Transfers

If you want to transfer a .uk registration away from us, you will need to know the Registrar Tag ID of the new registrar. Please contact the registrar to get the Tag ID. Once you have it, you can follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Domain Name Management System
  2. Click the .uk domain to transfer
  3. Click Transfer Your Domain Name
  4. Enter the Registrar Tag ID for your new registrar, and click Submit

Please Note: Once you start a .uk transfer away, we cannot cancel it or stop it.

Transferring to Us

Before Starting a Transfer

Before starting a transfer, please contact the current registrar. Ask them to unlock the domain and to provide the Transfer Authorization Code. Depending on the registrar, it may be called an authinfo code or EPP code. The code is like an extra password for the domain, and it is needed to complete a transfer. You can only get the code from the current registrar.

You can check your domain in WHOIS to verify if it is unlocked. Look for Status lines. If you see clientUpdateProhibited or clientTransferProhibited, the domain is locked and needs to be unlocked before transferring.

Domains cannot be transferred within the first 60 days of registration. So if you recently registered, please make sure it was registered at least 61 days ago.

Starting a Transfer

You can start a transfer from our homepage or within your account. During the checkout, you will be prompted to enter the Transfer Authorization Code. Entering the code serves as approval of the transfer.

Timeframe for Transfers

After entering the Transfer Authorization Code and completing the checkout, it can take up to six days for the transfer to be completed. We cannot speed up the completion of the transfer. However, the current registrar can complete the transfer more quickly. You can contact the current registrar to ask what options they provide to confirm an outgoing transfer without waiting.

Transfer Policies

The board that oversees all domain registrars, The Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), sets transfer policies to help protect against unauthorized transfers and changes to ownership.

Transfers Between Registrars

Transfers between registrars require approval by entering the transfer authorization code (also called EPP code or authinfo code).

Transfers of Ownership

Changing the Registrant Name, Registrant Organization, and/or Registrant Email count as transfers. You don’t need to enter the transfer authorization code to change the Registrant contact information. However, the change must be approved. If the email address stays the same, we email the current Registrant to ask for approval. The approval must be completed within 3 days.

If the email address changes, we email the new contact to ask for approval. After the new contact approves, we email the current Registrant to ask for approval. Both contacts must approve within 3 days.

If the Current Registrant Can’t Approve Transfers of Ownership

If the Registrant email on a domain is out of date, we will need to use a different method to get approval. We can contact the Registrant by telephone or postal mail. However, if all of that information is out of date, we may ask for photo ID or other documentation to verify identity. Please contact us to discuss options.

Transfer Lock After Transfers

It is not possible to transfer a domains within 60 days of a previous transfer. Since changing ownership is now considered a transfer, you cannot transfer or change ownership within 60 days of a previous transfer or change of ownership.

However, it is possible to opt-out of this 60 day lock. When a domain is transferred, the current Registrant has the option to opt-out of the 60 day lock. The new Registrant is not given this option, and is bound by the decision of the previous Registrant.

Please Note: If ID or documents are used to approve changes, we may opt the domains into the 60 day transfer lock.

Designating Pair Domains as an Agent

If you use our WHOIS Privacy, the email address listed in WHOIS will change every week. Since this is considered a transfer, the policy would ask us to verify with you two times every week. Instead of making you verify so often, you can designate Pair Domains as an Agent to authorize changes to WHOIS information. This will allow us to change the address in WHOIS every week, without asking you for approval each time.

Designating Pair Domains as an Agent is a requirement to use Email Privacy. We will only make changes to the email address for use in WHOIS Privacy. We will follow standard approval procedures for all other changes to the Registrant Name, Registrant Organization, and/or Registrant Email.
